“Tosca” Triumphs at Petruzzelli, Earning Rapturous Applause
On Friday, December 26, the fourth performance of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari captivated the audience, delivering an evening of intense emotion. The production by the Argentine master Hugo de Ana—who oversaw the direction, sets, and costumes—once again transported spectators into the heart-rending drama of Puccini’s celebrated opera, with striking visual and interpretative power that earned widespread acclaim.
On stage, the outstanding performances of Courtney Mills—who suffered a slight indisposition between the second and third acts yet bravely completed the performance—in the role of Floria Tosca, and the highly acclaimed Vincenzo Costanzo as Mario Cavaradossi, resonated deeply with the audience. Vittorio Vitelli, portraying the fearsome Baron Scarpia, impressed with his compelling intensity. The conducting of Francesco Cilluffo, attentive to enhancing every nuance of the score, played a decisive role in the evening’s powerful emotional impact, while the Teatro Petruzzelli Chorus, directed by Marco Medved, contributed significantly to the building tension that permeated the entire performance.
